I recently returned from Morélia Mexico where I led the first of eight KBC OPERATION: GO MEXICO 2010 teams. We successfully covered our assigned area, leaving 3000 gospel packets in the homes surrounding a local Baptist church. Since our main goal was gospel saturation, there were not a lot of opportunities for direct witness, yet eight persons prayed to receive Christ during our two days of gospel distribution. Before leaving on the trip, everyone on the team was questioned by others about the danger of traveling to Mexico at this time. Recent headlines of drug wars have left many with serious safety concerns.
Our experience, however, was very tranquil and we did not observe any dangerous activity, nor did we ever feel threatened by anyone or any situation. One of the missionaries explained that the area in which we are sending our GO MEXICO teams from Kentucky has no tourism appeal to U.S. citizens and consequently there is no draw to the area for those who might have intentions to assault or kidnap an American.
Another purpose of the trip was to provide an opportunity for team members to see other possible partnership possibilities, both in Morélia and the city of Querétero. The needs are great in these two cities which have a combined population of 2 million and are located in the “Heart of Darkness.” After building new relationships and seeing the needs first hand, team members returned to Kentucky anxious to assemble their own teams for return trips to the area in the near future.
