Trip Report: FBC Cold Spring Experiences Brazilian Blessing

On Tuesday, July 14, eight individuals from First Baptist Church of Cold Spring left the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky airport for a mission adventure to northeastern Brazil. After the check-in process and a time of prayer, Ronny Raines, the church’s senior pastor, talked to the mission team and several family members about Ephesians 3:20-21. Paul said, “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

First Baptist’s mission team partnered with IMB missionaries, Rick and Jill Thompson. Rick and Jill provided excellent leadership and organized the project to minister with three churches in and around Campina Grande. The mission team, along with many Brazilian interpreters and believers, did evangelism from house to house, in public schools, and in various children’s ministry settings. Several mission team members shared music, testimonies, and preached during evening worship gatherings, too. Over the course of nine days, hundreds of Brazilians heard the good news and placed their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior.

When the mission team returned home on July 26, the team gathered again at the airport with family and friends to thank God for fulfilling His promise in Ephesians 3:20-21. God did immeasurably more than the mission team could have ever asked for or imagined! During a mission trip report to the First Baptist family, team members shared how the Lord changed their lives as a result of experiencing life in another culture, building relationships with one another and with people in Brazil, and seeing the Lord work in incredible ways.

What happens when churches partner with missionaries and participate in short-term mission projects? Mission participants grow spiritually. Churches adopt a global focus. Missionaries receive encouragement. God’s kingdom expands. First Baptist exists with a passion for missions because God uses His people to reach the nations for His glory.
