Acts 1:8 Challenge Globe

A Testimony from Lewisville Baptist Church

On Acts 1:8 Commitment Sunday, we had an awesome response from God’s people from God’s invitation to do their part of fulfilling the Acts 1:8 Challenge.

I wanted to do something to have as a symbol and a reminder of their commitment to the Acts 1:8 Challenge. My lovely wife, Debbie, is a great ministry partner and she is very creative, so I asked her to pray about what we could do to remind our people of their commitment. After prayer and discussion with other godly people, Debbie suggested that we get a world globe that is made of clear, see-through material. We could cut a small slot in the globe and slip the commitment forms inside the globe. Then the globe could be placed in a prominent place in our sanctuary and everyone would have a wonderful reminder of our commitment. Needless to say I thought it was a marvelous idea and gave her the go-ahead to purchase the globe.

She found several globes online and we chose one that we liked best . Debbie used a very sharp knife to cut a slot in the equator region of the globe. The cutting of the slot was probably the hardest thing because she did not want to shatter the plexiglass globe. After much patient cutting, she finally had a slot which was big enough to slip the forms through but which was hardly noticeable if you didn’t know it was there.

On Sunday, January 4, I spoke about the Acts 1:8 Commitment of our church and how we needed a reminder of our commitment similar to the reminder of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection which we were about to remember in our partaking of the Lord’s Supper. At that point I unveiled the Acts 1:8 Commitment Globe. This wonderful symbol of our commitment to the Acts 1:8 Challenge meshed very well to our partaking in the Lord’s Supper, a symbol of the sacrifice of Christ for our sins.

Our Acts 1:8 Globe will remain in our sanctuary as a reminder of our commitment to the Acts 1:8 Challenge.
